  4. This menu is used to display and change various operating
  5. parameters of the system.

  8. VGA Display
  9. -----------

  11. This tells you the current video display mode, resolution, and
  12. number of colors.  To change this, you must exit the program,
  13. edit the PKTV.CFG file, change the GMODE command, and restart
  14. the program.

  17. Virtual Memory
  18. --------------
  19.  
  20. This tells you how much virtual memory is in use and still
  21. available.  Expect problems if less than 3 megabytes are 
  22. free.  Read the file MEMORY.TXT for details.

  25. Thumbnail Images
  26. ----------------

  28. This controls the number of images kept in memory and the 
  29. number of thumbnail images along the bottom of the screen.

  32. SSTV Mode

  35. Can't remember the duration of an S1 transmission?  Want to
  36. know how many scan lines are in an AVT 94 transmission?
  37. This will give you some details of the current mode.  Click
  38. on the button marked "Default" to make the current mode the
  39. default when the program starts up.

  45. This displays some information about the SSTV interface.

  48. I/O Address (PKTV Classic only)

  51. This allows you to specify a different I/O address for the
  52. Pasokon TV Classic interface.  The jumper on the board must
  53. agree with the setting in the program.

  56. Speaker Xmit Audio (EZ SSTV only)
  57. ------------------

  59. A check mark next to this activates the internal speaker
  60. during transmission.  Transmit audio is available from the
  61. serial port regardless of this setting.

  64. Interrupt

  67. This allows you to specify a different Interrupt (IRQ) for the
  68. SSTV interface.

  70. Pasokon TV Classic:
  71.     The jumper on the board must agree with the setting in the 
  72.     program.

  74. EZ SSTV:
  75.     This is the interrupt used by the serial port.

  78. Printer

  81. This displays the current settings for the printer.  Additional
  82. menu items are available for changing specifics:

  84.     LPT Port    - Pick one of 1 parallel printer ports.

  86.     Gamma       - Controls gray scale mapping.

  88.     Printer Types - Pick one closest to your printer type.

  93. Free Run
  94. --------

  96. All SSTV modes, other than AVT, have sync pulses separating 
  97. the scan lines.  One reception software strategy is to sit 
  98. there in a loop of
  99.  
  100.  * wait for sync pulse.
  101.  * gather and display a scan line.
  102.  
  103. This is OK in theory but results aren't so good in practice.  
  104. If a sync pulse is missing, a line won't be displayed at all.  
  105. Inconsistent detection of the sync edge results in lines not 
  106. being aligned properly.  This is called jitter and straight 
  107. vertical features become jagged.  When the Free Run option 
  108. is off, Pasokon TV follows the average sync locations to 
  109. minimize the image degradation from missing and corrupted 
  110. sync signals.  However there is still some pixel jitter.

  112. With the Free Run option on, a precise crystal oscillator 
  113. is used instead for timing and the exact sync position is 
  114. ignored once locked onto the signal.  Pixel jitter is reduced 
  115. and image quality improved.  There is one disadvantage.  If 
  116. the transmitting station is not calibrated properly, the 
  117. image will be slanted.  New users of the low-end systems often 
  118. transmit a few slanted images but other helpful hams get them 
  119. straightened out.

  121. Unless you need to compensate for signals with improper timing, 
  122. leave the Free Run option on for best results.

  125. Sync Squelch
  126. ------------

  128. When this option is off, Pasokon TV will make an attempt to 
  129. display an image for even very poor signals.  This is fine 
  130. when you're sitting there watching but not so good when you 
  131. turn on "auto save" and go away for a long time.  Your disk 
  132. would soon be full of images of random noise.

  134. The Sync Squelch option causes images to be displayed only 
  135. when there is a fairly high confidence level that a valid signal 
  136. is present.  We're dealing with noisy HF SSB signals so it's 
  137. all based on statistics of the sync pulse spacing.  The length 
  138. of the line on the left side of the tuning indicator shows the 
  139. confidence level that a valid signal is being received.  When 
  140. the Sync Squelch option is turned on, an image is displayed 
  141. only when this line exceeds a certain length.
